A personal trust is a powerful estate-planning tool that can play an important role in preserving your assets for future generations.
There are many reasons people create personal trusts:
Control wealth distribution to heirs
Reduce potential estate tax liability*
Avoid probate
Allow tax efficient gifts to charities
Provide for needs in the case of illness or incapacity
Usually when you appoint a corporate trustee for your trust, your personal financial advisor no longer has a direct role in the investment management of your trust assets. However, with a Franklin Templeton Bank & Trust (FTB&T) Advisor Directed Trust, you can appoint Brandywine Financial Group, Inc. as the investment fiduciary for your trust. Brandywine Financial Group, Inc. (“BFG”) (as the investment fiduciary), rather than the corporate trustee, has full and exclusive authority for managing the investment of your trust assets while working with you to develop an investment plan that serves your long-term objectives.
Steps to Create a New Trust or Transfer an Existing Trust
1. If you do not have an existing trust, Brandywine Financial Group, Inc. can assist you, your estate-planning attorney and your tax advisor in creating a trust that addresses your estate planning needs and that receives the benefits of a FTB&T Advisor Directed Trust.
If you have an existing trust and want the benefits of an FTB&T Advisor Directed Trust, your financial advisor and FTB&T can assist your attorney in preparing the necessary amendments for appointing FTB&T as the successor trustee and your financial advisor as the trust's investment advisor.
2. Brandywine Financial Group, Inc. sends your trust document and accompanying paperwork to FTB&T.
3. Upon receipt, your documents are reviewed. A trust officer will contact BFG and your attorney regarding completion of the appointment of FTB&T as trustee and BFG as investment fiduciary to the Trust.
4. After the necessary appointment documents are signed by you, BFG and FTB&T, the trust account is opened and trust assets are transferred to FTB&T.
